The Vision

In response to Phoenix's population growth and demand for high-end home furnishings, The Arizona Design Center -- a collection of the region's leading home design showrooms -- needed to expand into a significantly larger facility. Affluent Arizonans wanted local access to high-end home furnishings, instead of being forced to patronize such distant venues as the Pacific Design Center or L.A. Mart in Los Angeles, the San Francisco Mart, or even Chicagos Merchandise Mart. With Phoenixs retail sales projected to grow by 25 percent over the next five years -- a rate faster than the national average -- the expanded facility lets The Arizona Design Center serve interior designers more effectively.

The Solution

The Alter Group's 187-acre Riverwalk Arizona mixed-use development in upscale Scottsdale, with its expressway frontage and exceptional amenities, proved to be the environment that suited The Arizona Design Center. The mile of frontage along Loop 101 and interchanges at both Via de Ventura Road and Indian Bend Road assure desirable accessibility and highway visibility in the heart of Phoenix's most affluent and fastest growing region. Riverwalk Arizona's inaugural project, The Arizona Design Center is a 142,000 SF limited-to-the-trade-access building with a spectacular 7,000 SF atrium lobby ideal for hosting special events.

The Result

The new building -- which was 70 percent leased before the groundbreaking -- allows The Arizona Design Center to compete more effectively, provide superior service and capture more business. The expansion allowed The Arizona Design Center to enhance service in their hometown, provide a more diverse product mix with the addition of new showrooms, and improve access for an expanding interior design base so they can better serve their prosperous clients. Thanks to The Arizona Design Center's new, high-profile space, one showroom reported their most profitable June in the companys history, and another is setting sale records 11 months out of 12 during 2006.
